Sign of the Month – ‘Goodbye’
At 22 Street Lane Nursery, we will be teaching Makaton sign language classes to the children on a regular basis, and we would like to share one of our favourite signs with you every month!
Sign of the Month – September 2019
Action: Bring your fingertips to your chin, then say "Please" while bringing your arm down in a long arch
What is Makaton?
Makaton is a language programme using signs and symbols to help people to communicate. It is designed to support spoken language and the signs and symbols are used with speech, in spoken word order.
You can find out more about their mission by visiting: www.makaton.org
Who is Makaton for?
Makaton is the UK's leading language programme for adults and children with learning or communication difficulties. It is also used by everyone who shares their lives, for example, parents and other family members, friends and carers, and education and health professionals.
Makaton is used for teaching communication, language and literacy skills with children and adults who are at an early stage of communication and language development. This structured approach can also help people who are learning English as an additional language, helping them to communicate straightaway, whilst also supporting their learning.
