Our Garden

Our garden forms an integral part of the children’s day to day experience at the nursery, where they can feel the freedom of being outdoors in the fresh air, exploring the natural treasures that are constantly changing throughout the seasons. Connecting children with the natural world will be inextricably woven into their everyday learning experiences.

Our garden features many exciting play areas for the children including:

  • Large outdoor classroom
  • The tipi
  • Sandpit
  • Slide
  • Open play and trike track
  • Performance stage
  • Play areas with tunnels, recycled tyres, archways and towers, bridges, and scramble ramps
  • Messy Play area with mud kitchen
  • Outdoor toilet facilities
  • Allotment – raised beds, potting shed and composting area where children can learn about the life cycle of food and propagate their own plants, watch them grow, and even eat them

22 Street Lane Nursery recognise the benefits of the children being outdoor for sustained periods of time to allow children to learn whilst developing their physical and mental health. We provide daily opportunities to play outdoors for all our children come rain or shine.

Teaching children outdoors encourages curiosity and stimulates all the senses in a way that indoor learning simply cannot do.

By participating through engagement, motivating and achievable tasks and activities in a woodland environment children are encouraged to develop their confidence, social skills and communication.
