Diwali Celebrations 2019
We have had a wonderful time at 22 Street Lane celebrating Diwali, along with our Country of the Month, India!
The Chicklets have been enjoying Diwali light sensory sessions, rolling in colourful balls and watching them light up in a beautiful array of colours. They loved making lots of marks in the Indian flag messy play, and even painting their own Diya’s to take home with them! They used a mixture of brushes and their fingers to paint fantastic patterns.
The Goslings have been loving their colourful messy play activities, using coloured rice, oats and powder paint! They also used paints to create ‘Henna’, after tracing round each child’s hand, they then made some lovely patterns on the hand print. They also made some beautiful Diwali lanterns, along with dressing up and dancing to traditional music. The Goslings helped the staff to make some Onion Bhajis for snack time, smelling the different spices and onions before adding them to the mixture! Alongside the Bhajis, they tasted some other Indian food such as poppadum’s with mango chutney.
Cygnets room have been exploring bright colours through sensory play in the tuff trays, along with being very creative and making elephant’s using their hand prints, Rangoli patterns with rice and glue as well as their own Diya lamps! They’ve also loved looking at celebrations on their interactive screen, paired perfectly with listening to traditional music.
Our Swans have loved learning all about Diwali, exploring tuff trays filled with colourful materials, building lots of important landmarks in India including the Taj Mahal using magnetic shapes. Using pom poms dipped in paint attached with pegs, they created their own design of the Indian flag, getting creative and using a different method of painting called Dabbing!
Our Kitchen worked very hard making some yummy Indian food to enjoy for mealtimes, including Mango and Coconut Lassi and Chicken Pasanda with Steamed Basmati Rice!
