Working in partnership with parents
We feel it is essential to work together with parents so that the best outcomes can be achieved for the child by sharing as much information as possible. We try and include parents in the life of the nursery and support them with all aspects of their child’s learning.
Early Years’ Foundation Stage
We follow the EYFS framework to plan and assess the children’s learning. Each child has an individual plan, concentrating on certain areas of learning, created by their keyperson whilst taking account of parents’ views. Activities and experiences are then facilitated that will promote the next steps in their learning and observations are carried out by the staff. This helps staff to track each child’s progress and ensure that all areas of development are being fully supported. Older children take part in special group times, some adult-lead, some more open-ended, to provide experiences for children to work in small groups, collaborate, practice attentive listening, follow instructions etc. whilst still being able to exercise skills such as being creative, being willing to have a go, work things out and being capable and confident learners. The children also have the opportunity to take part in regular cooking activities and French sessions.
We have a bi-annual parents’ evening to provide the opportunity for parents to come in and talk to their child’s key person in a bit more detail about their progress and look through their child’s development profile. We also have a bi-annual information evening for parents of children new to the Discoverers’ room which is an opportunity to learn about the ethos and routines of the room. Ongoing information about the nursery is shared through regular newsletters and daily conversations with your child’s key person. External support from other agencies Occasionally we may need additional help in providing the right level of support for a child and when this occurs we have access to a range of children’s services and agencies. We have worked in partnership very successfully in the past with other professionals to ensure that a child with additional needs receives the help that they require.
We are proud to be partners of Tapestry, a secure online learning journal that records all the learning and fun of your child’s early years education.
Tapestry is a unique journal that is shared securely online with parents, who are able to see special moments as well as track and celebrate their child’s process. It allows us to work with parents and carers to share information and record children’s play and learning in and outside of the classroom.
We can upload photos, videos, observations and comments, then make them easily accessible for parents to view. Every entry helps us to create and build up a record of your child’s experiences during their time at our Nursery.
